Welcome to the AI Industry Report, the daily brief built by AI, about AI, from the Agentic Marketing Academy. It’s Wednesday, July 8th. Four stories today, no new rumors, and one five minute fix you can make before lunch. Let’s go.

Okay, the big one first. There’s a new AI traffic study out, and it settles an argument the industry’s been having for over a year. Remember the talk about Perplexity as the search native challenger, or Copilot riding Microsoft’s coattails? Neither bet paid off. Previsible analyzed six point seven seven million AI driven website sessions across a hundred and sixty six businesses, tracked from November 2024 through this May. The number that matters: ChatGPT now sends ninety two point four percent of all trackable AI referral traffic. Ninety two percent. One platform. So if you’re optimizing for “AI visibility” in general, without prioritizing ChatGPT specifically, you’re optimizing for an idea, not a customer.

Here’s the kicker, though. The quiet mover isn’t Perplexity, it’s Claude. Claude grew sixty four times over in that window and passed Perplexity back in March. Perplexity’s down sixty one percent from its peak, and Copilot has basically fallen off a cliff, down ninety six percent. So if your customers read long, technical, or professional content, Claude visibility just became worth watching, and that window’s still open.

And there’s a practical nugget in this study I honestly love. When ChatGPT sends someone to your site, it often just drops them on your internal search page, not a specific product or article. Roughly a quarter of AI referred visits land there. Translation: the AI did the hard work of trusting your brand, and your own clunky search box is what loses the sale. Five minute fix, real payoff. Next up, and if you post on social media, you’ll want this one. Google Search Console just added a way to see how your Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube posts perform inside Google Search itself. Not on the platform. Inside Google. You can see the search terms leading people to your content there, and which posts pull the traffic. Why’s that matter? Until now, you had zero visibility into whether your TikToks or LinkedIn posts ever showed up when someone Googled you. Now you can verify each platform and see the data. It’s rolling out gradually over the coming weeks, so don’t panic if it’s not there yet. Source: Search Engine Land, July 7th.

Now, two rapid fire items. OpenAI is letting ChatGPT Ads advertisers upload their own customer email and phone lists to target or exclude audiences, similar to Google or Meta ads. Expect partial matches, not full ones. And Google quietly updated its merchant listing rules to support sale date ranges and clearer product categories, so if you sell through Google Shopping, your feed can now be more specific about pricing windows and what your product actually is. Both from Search Engine Land, July 7th.

And today’s rumor watch: nothing new, which is a nice change of pace. Three older items are still open and unresolved, and we’ll bring them back the moment any of them close.

So here’s your one thing for today: open your own website and search something on it, the way a customer would. If your internal search is confusing or comes back empty, that’s the AI traffic you’re losing right now.
