Welcome to the AI Industry Report, daily AI news for small business, built by AI, about AI, from the Agentic Marketing Academy. It’s Thursday, October 8th. Four stories, and Claude just moved into your Google Docs and Sheets. Let’s go.
If you live in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides, this one’s for you. Anthropic says Claude for Google Workspace is now in public beta on every paid Claude plan. You install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace, open a file, and Claude sits in a sidebar next to your work. In Docs it can fix a sentence or restyle your headings. In Sheets it writes formulas and builds pivot tables and charts. In Slides it builds slides from your deck’s own layouts. By default, it asks before every edit. There’s also an accept-all mode, which I’d leave off until you trust it. It’s beta, and Anthropic hasn’t published usage limits. Try it on a copy of your price sheet first. Remember the AI watermark stories from August? Here’s an update. TechCrunch reports Google just opened its SynthID checker to everyone. You upload an image, video, or audio clip to synth I D dot com, and it tells you whether it carries Google’s invisible AI mark. Google’s own tools add that mark, and TechCrunch says OpenAI and NVIDIA support it too. Fine print: it only finds media from tools that use the mark, so a clean result doesn’t prove a person made it. For you, the point is simple. If you post AI-made images or video, anyone can check them now. Source: TechCrunch, October 7th.
Now, if your website runs on WordPress, there’s a new plugin to know about. WordPress has released an official MCP Adapter. MCP is the standard that lets AI assistants connect to tools, so this is the doorway that lets an AI like Claude work with your site’s features, like publishing a post. Search Engine Journal says an earlier version already has over forty thousand installs. The plugin page says nothing is exposed until a feature is marked public, and permission checks still run. No rush, though. If you try it, do it on a staging copy, not your live site. Source: Search Engine Journal, October 7th.
One sighting before we go, and it’s a rumor. Khushal Bherwani and Radu Oncescu posted screenshots of Google’s AI Overviews showing an add to calendar link on event dates. Barry Schwartz of Search Engine Roundtable couldn’t replicate it, and Bherwani says it vanished when he refreshed. Google hasn’t commented. If you run classes, events, or sales, put the date and time in plain text on your page. It costs nothing if the rumor’s wrong. Source: Search Engine Roundtable, October 7th.
So here’s your one thing for today. Take the last AI image you posted, upload it to the SynthID checker, and see what it says.
