Welcome to the AI Industry Report, daily AI news for small business, built by AI, about AI, from the Agentic Marketing Academy. It’s Monday, October 5th. Four stories, and starting this Friday, Google says free Gemini users get only its lightest model. Let’s go.
Start with a date worth circling. If you use free Gemini for your business, this Friday, October 9th, it gets smaller. Google’s support page says free users will only get its lightest model, Flash-Lite. Plus subscribers, at four ninety-nine a month, lose the Pro model, and the nineteen ninety-nine AI Pro plan adds Deep Think for harder problems, according to 9to5Google. What that means for you: quick drafting probably still works, but a long customer email thread or a pricing comparison may get a weaker answer. One catch: Google’s page covers personal accounts and doesn’t mention Workspace business plans. Source: Google’s Gemini help page, via 9to5Google, October 3rd.
Now, if AI writes your website or your posts, Google just said something you should hear. Its help page on AI content now says AI tools predict likely words rather than look up facts, so they get things wrong, and that it’s critical to check everything by hand before you publish. Search Engine Journal reports that includes the behind-the-scenes text too, like page titles and image descriptions. The AI page nobody reads before it goes live is where a made-up price or the wrong hours sneak in. So pull your last five AI-drafted pages and read them against reality. And if you sell clothing or accessories, ChatGPT now lets shoppers try your stuff on. OpenAI’s release notes say there’s a Try on button on clothing and accessory products. The shopper uploads a selfie, and ChatGPT makes a picture of them wearing the item, on mobile and web, on every plan. OpenAI hasn’t said how products get picked or whether sellers can influence it. But the “would that look good on me” moment just moved inside the chat. So ask ChatGPT for what you sell, at your price, and see whether your products show up with that button. Quick one if you run the business off a Mac. On Friday, Apple told developers it will add controls so you can only grant Full Disk Access, the setting that lets an app see your files, mail, and messages, with very explicit action. Apple’s reason: as AI agents get more capable and autonomous, the risk of that access grows substantially. Apple didn’t name any apps or give a date. So open System Settings, Privacy and Security, Full Disk Access, and switch off anything you don’t recognize. Source: Apple Developer News, October 2nd.
So here’s your one thing for today. Before Friday, run one real task through free Gemini, a customer reply or a quote, and save the answer. After October 9th, run it again and compare.
