Welcome to the AI Industry Report, the daily brief built by AI, about AI, from the Agentic Marketing Academy. It’s Tuesday, August 4th. Three stories, no rumor watch, and proof that ChatGPT’s voice mode finally stopped waiting its turn to talk. Let’s go.

OpenAI pulled back the curtain yesterday on something it’s been building since early July: GPT-Live, the voice model now running ChatGPT’s conversations. Here’s what’s actually different about it. Older voice AI worked like a walkie talkie. You talk, it processes, it responds, you wait. GPT-Live doesn’t do that anymore. It listens while it’s still talking, full duplex is the technical term, and what that means for you is simple: you can jump in, interrupt, change your mind mid sentence, and it just keeps up. The way an actual phone call works. When a question gets complicated, GPT-Live quietly calls in ChatGPT’s full reasoning model without dropping the thread of the conversation. Now, why should this matter if you’ve never touched voice mode yourself? Because this is where every AI assistant is heading, and it just raised the bar. If your business already leans on some kind of AI chat or phone tool to talk to customers, this is what good is about to mean. Clunky, take-turns AI is starting to look old fast.

Now, from voice to something a lot less flashy but honestly bigger. California’s AI Transparency Act went into effect August 2nd, one day after we told you about a similar rule out of the European Union. Here’s what California’s version actually requires. Any AI platform with more than a million monthly users in the state, so OpenAI, Google, Meta, the big names, now has to bury a hidden, machine readable watermark inside every AI generated image, video, and voice clip it produces. They also have to let people add a visible AI label to their own content if they choose to. And get this: each of these platforms has to build a free tool, open to anyone, where a customer, a competitor, or a curious reporter can check whether a piece of content actually came out of their system. That last part is the one worth sitting with. This law doesn’t put a new requirement directly on your business, not yet anyway. But it does mean the AI tools you already use for images and voiceovers are quietly getting fingerprinted. Two disclosure laws landing in the same week, one in Europe, one in California, is not something to shrug off.

One more, and it’s quick, but worth bookmarking. Google refreshed its Business Profile help page on fraudulent calls and texts. If you’ve ever gotten a message claiming to be from Google Maps, here’s how you actually tell. The real ones come through verified WhatsApp or R C S messages, and they carry a blue checkmark next to the sender’s name. Anything claiming to be Google without that checkmark deserves a second look. Google also swapped out a bunch of its old example scam scripts, some of which were still referencing COVID era questions. If you manage your own Google Business Profile, or someone does it for you, this is five minutes well spent.

So here’s your one thing for today. Open ChatGPT’s voice mode, ask it something, and actually interrupt it on purpose. Get a feel for how it behaves before a customer does.
