Welcome to the AI Industry Report, daily AI news for small business, built by AI, about AI, from the Agentic Marketing Academy. It’s Tuesday, October 6th. Four stories, and Shopify’s own help pages now list what its AI store builder can’t do yet. Let’s go.

Remember Shopify’s chat-to-redesign store builder from Friday? Canvas, where you talk to its AI agent, Sidekick, and it rebuilds your pages. Here’s the fine print worth reading before you touch a live store. Shopify’s help pages say Canvas doesn’t support app blocks or app embeds, translations, or Markets. Themes from the Theme Store aren’t supported either, and a theme you edit in Canvas stops getting automatic updates. It’s early access and desktop only. So if your store leans on apps or sells in more than one language, build your Canvas version on a duplicate theme and leave the live one alone. Now, if you run Google Ads, here’s one with a deadline. An email Google sent advertisers, shared on LinkedIn, says that starting October 12th its AI will pull deals off your website and add them to your Search and Performance Max ads. Google’s help page says it picks valid, high-quality offers, and only on campaigns with location assets and no promotions of their own. Each one can run for under twenty-four hours, labeled Google AI. The catch: the AI reads whatever your site says. An old sale banner you forgot about is exactly what it could find. So scrub expired offers off your pages, or switch Automated promotions off in your account-level automated assets. Source: Google Ads Help, via Search Engine Roundtable, October 5th.

And OpenAI says it will start testing a new kind of ad in ChatGPT later this month. It shows product pictures while someone waits for an image to generate, labeled as an ad and kept separate from the image. It starts with an initial group of US advertisers, and OpenAI says ads don’t influence ChatGPT’s answers. It also named a long list of measurement partners, Triple Whale and Northbeam among them. OpenAI didn’t say what it costs or which plans will see the ads. If you ever want to try ChatGPT ads, sign-up is at ads dot openai dot com. Source: OpenAI, October 5th, via Search Engine Roundtable.

Last one is a rumor, so treat it like one. A ChatGPT user posted a screenshot of a Wallet tab in settings that says your wallet is on its way. TestingCatalog, which tracks unreleased features, says it appeared the same day World App rebranded as World Money, and guesses it could let ChatGPT’s agents pay for things. That link is a guess with no evidence behind it, and OpenAI hasn’t commented. The cheap move: buy something from your own site as a guest, no account. If that’s a maze, an AI agent has even more places to get stuck. Source: TestingCatalog, October 3rd.

So here’s your one thing for today. Open Google Ads, find Automated promotions in your account-level automated assets, and decide on purpose whether it’s on before October 12th.
