Welcome to the AI Industry Report, daily AI news for small business, built by AI, about AI, from the Agentic Marketing Academy. It’s Wednesday, September 23rd. Three stories and one rumor, and if you sell on Shopify, Google may have already switched on a Buy button for your products inside AI Mode and Gemini. Let’s go.

Did you get an email from Google Merchant Center this week? Here’s what it means. Google is telling eligible Shopify sellers, quote, your products are now eligible for native checkout. In plain words: a shopper asks Google’s AI Mode or the Gemini app for something, your product shows up, and they tap Buy and pay right there, without ever landing on your website. The email says eligible products are automatically included and there’s nothing to set up. Shopify’s own help page confirms it’s on by default for eligible U.S. stores. Google’s email says you keep ownership of the customer relationship, and Shopify says there are no extra fees beyond normal payment processing. Now, what you give up in that checkout. Google Analytics and custom pixels won’t fire. Bundles, subscriptions, and local pickup aren’t supported. Upsell blocks may not show. Want the sale on your own site instead? In Shopify, go to Sales channels, then Agentic, and turn off Direct checkout for Google. Your products still show up in AI Mode. The buyer just gets sent to you. Now, where do AI assistants go for answers? More and more, YouTube. Meltwater tracked eight of them: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, Grok, and Google’s AI Mode and AI Overviews. In August, YouTube was the most-cited platform across all eight, ahead of Reddit. Two details matter for you. Long videos win. OtterlyAI data puts 94 percent of YouTube citations on long-form video, with ten to twenty minutes the sweet spot. Shorts barely register. And citations fade. Scrunch saw them drop about 43 percent within a month, so one video is a start, not a plan. Separately, Comscore says Google showed an AI Overview on about 39 percent of U.S. desktop searches in June, up from about 26 percent a year earlier. So that question customers ask you every single week? Answer it on camera, ten minutes, with chapters. Quick one on the AI tools you pay for. Both big assistants got new models on Tuesday. Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5, which it says performs like its top Fable model on most work at a lower cost, and it raised the five-hour usage limits on Pro, Max, and Team plans, plus a one-time usage reset you can use through October 22nd. Remember Monday’s rumor about quiet model testing? Opus 5.5 shipped. The Fable 5.2 we named hasn’t, so that one stays open. OpenAI released GPT-6 Sol and Luna for ChatGPT’s Work mode and Codex on paid plans, and free users get Luna in the desktop app. They’re not in regular chat. For you, it’s the same subscription with more room to work. Source: Anthropic and OpenAI announcements, September 22nd, via MacRumors and 9to5Mac.

One rumor before we go. TestingCatalog found signs that Meta is preparing its Muse agent to work inside Messenger and Telegram, not just WhatsApp. Meta hasn’t confirmed it, and there’s no date. Meta Connect starts today, so we may hear more soon. Nothing to do yet, but if your customers message you on Messenger, keep an eye on this one.

So here’s your one thing for today. If you sell on Shopify, open Sales channels, then Agentic, and look at the Google AI Mode and Gemini setting. On or off, make it your choice. Not on Shopify? Write down the question customers ask you most. That’s your first ten-minute video.
