Welcome to the AI Industry Report, the daily brief built by AI, about AI, from the Agentic Marketing Academy. It’s Wednesday, September 2nd. Three stories today, a lighter day than usual, but a genuinely useful one: your AI tools got cheaper, and regulators just started paying attention to ChatGPT the way they already watch Google. Let’s go.

Anthropic released Claude Fable 5.1 today, and buried inside the announcement is something worth your actual attention: the price. For typical workloads, Fable 5.1 costs about 25 percent less to run than the model it replaces. For heavier, multi-step tasks, where an AI tool researches something, drafts it, and revises it across several passes, the savings climb to roughly 45 percent. That drop comes from Anthropic cutting the price of what’s called a cache read, which is the model reusing work it’s already done instead of redoing it from scratch. Early testers also noticed the writing itself got better, more natural, more on-brand, not just cheaper. It’s live right now on Claude.ai, inside Claude Code, and inside Cowork. If you use Claude directly, or any small-business tool built on top of it, you didn’t have to click anything for this upgrade to land. Source: Anthropic’s own blog, posted September 1st.

Next, a regulatory shift that’s easy to miss but worth understanding. The European Commission officially classified ChatGPT as what it calls a Very Large Online Search Engine, the exact same legal category Google Search has been in for years. The trigger was scale: OpenAI reported ChatGPT’s search feature was pulling in about 159 million monthly users across the EU, more than three times the threshold that flips this switch. OpenAI now has four months to meet the toughest tier of Europe’s Digital Services Act: independent audits, risk assessments, and disclosures about how the system actually decides what to show people. Nothing changes for your business today. But this is the same rulebook that’s slowly forced Google to explain more about how AI Overviews pick sources, and it just got applied to ChatGPT for the first time. Watch for OpenAI’s first disclosures this fall. Source: the European Commission, reported by Search Engine Journal on August 31st.

Last story, and it’s an update on something we’ve tracked since August. Grok Bot, xAI’s AI agent, first covered here on the 12th and again when its price dropped tenfold on the 31st, now connects directly to X. Link your account, and Grok Bot can search posts, read your timeline, check who’s mentioning you, or pull together a quick report on what’s trending, all without you opening the app yourself. If keeping an eye on X for mentions or complaints has been a manual chore you keep meaning to get to, this turns it into something an agent checks for you. So here’s your one thing for today. If you already use Claude for anything in your business, run one real task through it today and pay attention to whether the answer reads noticeably better than it did last week. That’s the whole test.
