Welcome to the AI Industry Report, daily AI news for small business, built by AI, about AI, from the Agentic Marketing Academy. It’s Friday, September 11th. Three stories, and the first one is Yelp’s CEO naming every AI assistant that’s now reading your Yelp page, and it’s most of them. Let’s go.

Okay, the big one first. Remember back in July, when Yelp signed its deal with OpenAI and we told you ChatGPT was about to start reading Yelp reviews? On Wednesday, Yelp’s CEO, Jeremy Stoppelman, sat down at a Goldman Sachs conference and gave the whole list. ChatGPT, yes. But also Apple, which means Siri. Bing. Meta AI. Amazon’s Alexa. And, in his words, most autos. Your customer’s car. His line was, if you’re not Google, you don’t have Google’s data, so you probably want to be talking to Yelp. And it isn’t just reading anymore. He said the Request a Quote button is now showing up on relevant results inside ChatGPT. So somebody types, I need a roofer in Tulsa, ChatGPT lists a few, and there’s a button that sends that person’s details into Yelp’s quote system, which fans the request out to several businesses at once. Yelp says it’s now using AI to decide which businesses get matched to those leads. What does that mean for you? Two things. Your Yelp page is no longer a Yelp page. It’s the file card a whole row of assistants pull from when somebody asks about a business like yours. And for scale, Apple said the same day that Siri alone handles two and a half billion requests a day. So if your hours are wrong on Yelp, they’re wrong in Siri. And if you do services and you’re not set up to receive Request a Quote leads, ChatGPT is producing leads with your kind of business on them, and they’re landing at the shop down the road. Next up, and this one is for anybody who’s been cranking out blog posts with AI and wondering why nothing’s happening. Orbit Media has asked a thousand-plus content marketers the same questions every year for thirteen years, and the last question is always the same: does your content get results? For twelve years, somewhere between 20 and 30 percent said strong results. This year? Fourteen. Lowest ever. And 92 percent of those people now use AI. Here’s the part that stings. Using AI had no relationship to results. None. It made everybody faster, about fifty minutes a post, and the results fell anyway. So what changed? People stopped doing the things that work. Working with outside experts. Publishing their own original numbers. Checking what people actually search for. Having a human edit the thing. Every one of those is down this year, and every one of those still predicts success. Collaborating with an expert or an influencer was the single strongest predictor, two and a half times the average, and only seven percent of marketers still do it. Why does that matter for getting recommended by AI? Because original data and a real expert’s name are the two things an AI can’t generate on its own. So they’re what it cites. And one for the Windows crowd, which is most of you. Google put Gemini on Windows yesterday as an actual app. You press Alt and the spacebar, and it opens right over whatever you’re doing: the invoice, the email, the spreadsheet. It connects to your Gmail and Drive, it makes images, and on the paid plans it carries Gemini Spark, Google’s agent that works in the background with the apps you’ve connected. Mac users have had this since April. Why do I care? Because the assistant is now one keystroke from where you actually run the business, on the machine most shops actually own. If you’ve been meaning to try having AI draft the estimate, summarize the contract, or mock up the flyer, the excuse of I’d have to open another tab is gone. Free download, Windows 10 or later. So here’s your one thing for today. Log in to Yelp for Business and read your page like Siri would: hours, phone, categories, the first three photos. Fix what’s wrong. And if you’re a service business, make sure Request a Quote is turned on, because ChatGPT is now pushing that button for you.
